As Mayor, one of my top priorities will be ensuring that every taxpayer dollar is being spent wisely and delivering real value to the people of Maple Ridge. Before asking residents to pay more, we owe it to them to take a hard look at how the City operates and identify opportunities to do things better, smarter, and more efficiently. That means conducting a comprehensive review of city spending, processes, contracts, and service delivery to determine where savings can be found without compromising the services residents rely on.

Throughout my time with the Chamber of Commerce, I spearheaded efforts to examine how resources were being used, challenge long-standing assumptions, and find more effective ways of achieving our goals. We asked tough questions: Are we getting the best value for our investment? Are there better ways to deliver results? Can we eliminate duplication and unnecessary costs? That same mindset will guide my approach at City Hall. I believe in looking at every dollar spent and asking whether taxpayers are truly getting the best return on their investment.

I also believe that leadership requires the courage to think outside the box. We cannot continue doing things a certain way simply because “that’s the way they’ve always been done.” The world is changing rapidly, and municipalities must adapt. New technologies, innovative partnerships, and modern approaches to service delivery can help us achieve better results while controlling costs. Common sense, accountability, and a willingness to challenge the status quo are essential if we want to build a stronger, more sustainable future for Maple Ridge.

Government should continuously look inward and strive for improvement. Every department, every program, and every expenditure should be evaluated to ensure it is providing maximum value to residents. My commitment is simple: before considering additional taxes or fees, we will first look for ways to make City Hall more efficient, more accountable, and more effective. By focusing on responsible financial management, innovation, and a culture of continuous improvement, we can protect taxpayers, strengthen municipal services, and ensure Maple Ridge remains an affordable and attractive place to live, work, and invest.

The approach I will bring as Mayor is one of common sense, fiscal discipline, and strong leadership. Residents expect their elected officials to manage public money with the same care they manage their own household budgets. That means asking tough questions, embracing new ideas, and never being afraid to rethink how things are done if it leads to better outcomes for taxpayers. Maple Ridge deserves a City Hall that is always looking for ways to do more with less, and that is exactly the approach I will bring to the job.
